The 13th OSCE Ministerial Council Ljubljana, 5 and 6 December 2005

Slovenia hosted this year's Ministerial Council in OSCE - The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe

The OSCE is the world's largest regional security organization whose 55 participating States span the geographical area from Vancouver to Vladivostok. The Chairmanship rotates annually, and the post of the Chairman-in-Office is held by the Foreign Minister of a participating State. The CiO is assisted by the previous (2004: Bulgaria) and succeeding Chairmen (2006: Belgium); the three of them together constitute the Troika.

Slovenia holds the OSCE Chairmanship in 2005. Slovenia also hosts this year's Ministerial Council, where Foreign Ministers, diplomats, ambassadors,  press etc. attend to review and assess the activities of the Organization.

The 13th Ministerial Council was this year held at the "Commercial Fairground" in Ljubljana. In total they used 10 conference rooms incl. the plenary hall, press conference room and a press area.

AV-cooperation
Our Slovenian DIS distributor AVC-Group, Slovenia was appointed AV-solution supplier and asked Informationsteknik for support. Informationsteknik delivered primarily DIS equipment and brought along two AV-engineers.  We were also AV-supplier 30 years ago, when OSCE held their first summit in Helsinki, Finland - and the two Danish AV-engineers, who were in charge of the 2005 meeting, celebrated their 30 years anniversary in OSCE setting, as they were AV-technicians in Finland in 1975.

Digital Conference System
AVC and Informationsteknik provided a complete digital DIS conference system inclusive 220 portable conference microphones with built-in channel selectors for the tables, and digital infrared language distribution system for the remaining audience. In total we brought 1800 digital, wireless receivers on the truck, which drove directly from Copenhagen to the conference center in Ljubljana.

Also we sat up and distributed in total 27 interpreter booths with digital simultaneous interpretation equipment. Moreover 50 plasma displays and an internal TV-system for transmission directly from the plenary hall. The audio from the 8 interpreted languages/channels were also transmitted to the press area, in order for each journalist to listen to the speeches and send articles to their home countries.

Digital Language Distribution
DIS introduced the digital infrared system in 2005, and the OSCE meeting was hitherto the biggest event for the system to show its strength. The result was overwhelming. The AV-engineers had  designed a very good audio coverage in the rooms - to everybody's great satisfaction.

All employees at AVC and Informationsteknik were praised. The Slovenian broadcaster, who produced the images, received audio directly from the digital system – and they were very satisfied with the audio quality. So were the interpreters. They praised the audio quality, the flexibility of the system and the great competence of the AV-engineers. Last but not least the organizers OSCE offered praise for the well performed job and the high quality.

No doubt the digital DIS system has set up new standards for future international conferences.
